The ring production process is a complex deformation process with different steps: upsetting, pre punching, punching, shaping and ring rolling, from a bar to a seamless ring. The process parameters of these processes must be carefully selected to ensure good ring quality and reduce unnecessary axial deformation (axial deformation will produce pit defects). In addition, reducing the energy consumption of ring production is still an open challenge. We should not only optimize the process, but also improve the productivity of the plant.
The importance of upsetting height in ring rolling process is emphatically studied. The importance of this parameter has been proved because it affects the energy consumption and the load required to produce the workpiece. Based on the factory test and numerical method, the conclusion shows that the reduction of upsetting height can greatly improve this problem:
(1) Reduced energy consumption and load: it has been proved that reducing the upsetting height can reduce the load and energy consumption of punching and ring rolling steps in the ring blank making process (except the energy consumption of core roller) and the energy consumption of the total process, which is the most critical for ring production. On the contrary, this will increase the load and energy consumption of upsetting, pre punching and shaping steps, as well as the energy consumption of core roller.
(2) Reduce defects: the conclusion shows that the upsetting height is lower, and more accurate final height and smaller pit defects can be obtained.
In addition, within the scope of technical capacity, it is of great significance to reduce energy consumption, load, material waste and impact on the environment.
