Carburizing and quenching of gears

For gears, compared with other heat treatment processes, carburizing and quenching have the best comprehensive mechanical properties, so carburizing process is most widely used in the production of high parameter gears. 20Cr2Ni4 steel is a high-strength alloyed carburized steel with good hardenability, high core hardness and good toughness. It is often used in heavy-duty gears and gears bearing large impact loads, and is widely used in chemical, metallurgy, mining machinery, power stations, ships, aviation and other fields.

Carburizing and quenching process can significantly improve the fatigue strength and service life of gears, and its subsequent grinding process is also critical. If the grinding parameters are not correct, grinding cracks and grinding burns will be caused on the tooth surface, especially grinding burns will directly lead to gear scrapping, which will not only delay the construction period, but also cause large economic losses. The tooth surface crack of 20Cr2Ni4 spiral bevel gear after carburizing, quenching and grinding is detected and analyzed, and the improvement measures are proposed.
