Advantages and disadvantages of helical gear


(1) Good meshing performance: the meshing process between helical cylindrical gear teeth is an excessive process, and the force on the teeth is gradually from small to large, and then from large to small; Helical gears are suitable for high speed and heavy load.

(2) Large coincidence degree: the increase of coincidence degree improves the bearing capacity of the gear. Thus, the service life of the gear is prolonged. The coincidence degree mainly depends on the meshing time, while the helical gear has long meshing time and large contact area, which reduces the stress. It makes the transmission stable and increases its economy.

(3) Compact structure: the less the minimum number of teeth, the more compact the structure is.


Herringbone gears are troublesome to manufacture.

Axial component force is harmful to gear transmission. It increases the friction between devices and makes the device easy to wear or damage. The main disadvantage of helical gears is that the axial component force will be generated when the gears mesh. The axial force is caused by the helix angle. The larger the helix angle, the greater the axial force. In order not to generate excessive axial force on helical gear, it is generally taken as = 8 ~ 15 in design.

Herringbone gear can reduce the influence of axial component force, but the manufacturing of herringbone gear is more troublesome. Uneconomical.

Helical gear transmission is composed of two helical gears meshing.
