Characteristics of hypoid gear transmission

1.Axis offset

Hypoid gears are used for transmission between two shafts with staggered axes. The distance that the axis of the small wheel deviates from the axis of the large wheel is called the offset distance, which is represented by E.

Generally, when facing the gear teeth of the big wheel, place the small wheel horizontally on the right side of the big wheel. If the axis of the small shaft is below the axis of the big wheel, it is called lower offset, and vice versa.

2.Relationship between offset distance and helix angle

The offset direction is generally the direction that increases the helix angle of the small wheel. When the offset distance increases, the helix angle of the small wheel also increases, and the outer diameter of the small wheel also increases. In this way, the rigidity and strength of the small wheel can be improved, the number of teeth of the small wheel can be reduced, and the transmission with high reduction ratio can be obtained.

3.Characteristics compared with bevel gear

The axis of hypoid gear pair has offset distance, which makes the transmission design layout more flexible and improves the strength of small wheel at the same time. The small wheel of hypoid gear pair has a large helix angle, so that it can obtain greater coincidence degree and more stable transmission. In the transmission process, there is relative sliding along the tooth length direction and tooth height direction, so that the tooth lapping technology of the workpiece after heat treatment is better. However, since the relative sliding is larger than that of bevel gear, the possibility of early wear is also greater. Therefore, pay attention to the selection of lubricating oil.
