Development history of point-line meshing gear

The research of point-line meshing gear began in the 1990s. It was first proposed by Professor Li Haixiang of Wuhan University of Technology. After more than 30 years of theoretical and practical research by his team, the construction of the design system of this type of gear transmission was initially completed. During the research process, Professor Li Haixiang’s team conducted extensive research on the meshing principle, geometric parameter design method, strength verification and finite element simulation method, gear failure form, processing and manufacturing technology, and test verification of point-line meshing gear transmission, and achieved a series of research results.

The point-line meshing gear won the first prize of Wuhan Technological Invention Award in 1999, was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology as the national “Ninth Five-Year Plan” key science and technology promotion project in the same year, and won the third prize of Hubei Provincial Technological Invention Award in 2001. It has obtained many domestic invention patents in the development process, and has not seen any report about the point-line meshing gear abroad. The point-line meshing gear transmission device has been applied in the industrial field for more than 20 years, mainly in mining, lifting, transportation, metallurgy, chemical industry and other industries. It has not been applied in the high-speed industrial gear box and the defense weapon equipment industry. The main reason is that this type of gear has not been tested and verified under high-speed and heavy load conditions, and lack of test data support. This is also one of the problems to be solved in the follow-up research of this type of gear transmission.

The point-line meshing gear is different from the above gear forms. It is a new gear meshing transmission form proposed on the basis of considering the respective meshing characteristics of the involute gear and the circular gear. Its meshing tooth profile and meshing contact state are shown in the figure.

The point-line meshing gear has the characteristics of both wire meshing transmission and point meshing transmission in the meshing process. It is a new gear transmission structure with the advantages of both involute gear and circular gear, which can ensure the convenience of gear manufacturing and processing, and improve the bearing capacity of gear transmission and the stability and reliability of transmission.
