
In the 1970s, China began to study the technology related to hypoid gears. It mainly focused on “Gleason gear”, listed the research of “Gleason gear technology” as a key project, and organized relevant domestic experts to tackle technical problems together. Zeng Tao, Zheng Changqi and other experts have deeply studied and analyzed the space meshing theory of hypoid gears, and finally deduced the formula on the processing parameter adjustment card of Gleason machine tool according to the mathematical vector algorithm, and obtained its detailed theoretical basis and calculation method. They also improved and perfected the shortcomings, enriched the theory of hypoid gears, and laid a solid theoretical foundation for the work of other scientific researchers in China.
By the 1980s, Chinese scientists had basically understood the theory and processing principle of Gleason gear technology, designed and manufactured their own hypoid gear processing machine tools, and produced high-quality hypoid gear models. In 1999, the scientific research team of Professor Zeng Tao of Central South University developed the first seven axis five linkage CNC gear grinding machine in China, which processed high-precision hypoid gears and was widely used throughout the country.
At present, China’s expert team on hypoid gear technology includes the State Key Laboratory of gear transmission system of Chongqing University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Central South University and Huazhong University of science and technology. With the development of science and technology, people have put forward higher requirements for accuracy and strength of hypoid gears. The working environment of hypoid gears is also more harsh. Various high-precision CNC machining machines are constantly appearing in the market, making its development more perfect.
