Gear hobbing principle

Gear hobbing processing principle, as shown in the figure. There are many processing methods for cylindrical gears. According to the processing principle of gears, they can be divided into profiling method and generating method (or generating method). Gear hobbing belongs to the generation method, which uses the basic law of tooth profile meshing to cut the tooth profile. It can be assumed that one of a pair of meshing gears is used as the cutting tool, and the other is used as the wheel blank, so that the two are driven according to the fixed transmission ratio, and the cutting tool makes cutting movement at the same time, the gear profile conjugate with the tool tooth profile can be processed on the tooth blank. At the same time, the cutter moves along the axial direction of the workpiece, and the whole gear can be processed. Gear hob is essentially a worm. The gear hobbing process is equivalent to the meshing process of worm and gear.

Gear hobbing machine has many uses. It can process not only spur and helical external cylindrical gears, but also worm gears, sprockets and so on. Gear hobbing is adopted, which has the following process characteristics:

(1) High production efficiency. Gear hobbing belongs to continuous cutting, without auxiliary time loss and empty stroke. Multi head hobs can be used to improve the hobbing rate.

(2) Gear hobbing belongs to generating method, and gear hobbing has good adaptability. Using a hob, you can process gears with the same modulus and pressure angle as the hob but different number of teeth.

(3) High machining accuracy. Compared with the forming method, gear hobbing has no theoretical error of tooth profile curve, so it can generally process gears with accuracy of 8 ~ 7 levels.
