Gear inspection is an important part of gear manufacturing. Lack of inspection and process control will lead to the outflow of unqualified gear parts. Therefore, this chapter will discuss some methods, equipment and tolerances for gear inspection. The basic inspection standards for automobile gear hob machining mainly include the following items:
Ring gear diameter jump
Pitch error
Accumulated error
Tooth profile error
Tooth direction error
There are two main inspection methods for gears, namely, single inspection method and comprehensive method. The single inspection method includes checking the basic deviation. It requires the use of special testing equipment or instruments to evaluate each deviation. The comprehensive method is mainly used for the comprehensive evaluation of gear parts. Comprehensive method is an easier inspection method to determine the quality of gear parts. The external gear parts generally adopt the comprehensive method, which can more directly and accurately evaluate the gear quality.
