Machining parameters and TCA analysis of spiral bevel gear pair

The tooth surface with good meshing performance is the basis for creating precision forging die. Therefore, the premise of using precision forging process to produce spiral bevel gear is to obtain the tooth surface processing parameters with good meshing performance. TCA analysis is a numerical simulation tool for verifying the tooth surface processing parameters. The gear geometric parameters are modified through TCA analysis to achieve better theoretical contact area, The gear pair parameters with good meshing performance are obtained.

The actual contact part on the tooth surface of a pair of bevel gears under normal meshing and rotation conditions is called “contact area”, also known as “contact spot” or “contact mark”. The shape, size and position of the contact area have a direct impact on the smooth operation, noise and service life of the gear. Therefore, the tooth surface contact area is one of the important symbols to measure the meshing quality of bevel gear.

Transmission error also has a great impact on the meshing transmission of spiral bevel gear. Excessive transmission error will reduce the overall accuracy, aggravate the gear wear and reduce the service life. The transmission error range includes single tooth transmission error and overall transmission error. The transmission error corresponding to the accuracy level needs to be guaranteed within a certain range.

The basic principle of TCA analysis, namely tooth contact analysis, is to determine the tooth surface equations of large and small wheels from the blank parameters of the cut gear, analyze their tooth contact areas under different installation forms, and then determine the tooth cutting control data of large and small wheels. This process is generally carried out on the computer.

According to the calculated geometric parameters and machining parameters of wheel blank, TCA analysis is carried out. Taking the large gear as an example, figure 1 shows the theoretical contact trajectory and transmission error curve of small module spiral bevel gear, and Figure 2 shows the contact trajectory and transmission error curve of equal module spiral bevel gear.
