Research on Spur Gear Modification Based on Elastohydrodynamic Friction Pair Stiffness

Propose replacing the maximum modification amount of spur gear meshing stiffness with the meshing stiffness of spur gear elastohydrodynamic friction pairs for tooth profile modification, establish the relationship between spur gear modification and elastohydrodynamic lubrication, and propose a new method for spur gear modification.

Through Admas and Romax software, the meshing force, angular acceleration and transmission error of the modified spur gear based on this method and the modified spur gear based on ISO method are simulated and compared. Through some engineering examples, the maximum modification amount obtained by this method is compared and tested, and the following conclusions are obtained:

(1) After considering the influence of elastohydrodynamic lubrication, the meshing stiffness of spur gears decreases, resulting in an increase in the maximum modification amount.

(2) Compared with the ISO method, the modified spur gear pair based on the meshing stiffness of the elastohydrodynamic friction pair has a 5%~20% reduction in transmission error, dynamic meshing force, and angular acceleration, and the transmission performance of the spur gear is significantly improved.

(3) Compared to the maximum modification amount calculated using the ISO method, the maximum modification amount calculated based on the stiffness of the elastohydrodynamic friction pair is more in line with the actual modification amount of spur gears in engineering.

(4) It is not only necessary but also more effective to consider the influence of elastohydrodynamic lubrication when modifying spur gears.
