# Research status of gear hobbing technology in China

The research on gear hobbing in China is relatively late, and no one has made a comprehensive and systematic analysis on it, but discussed the hobbing mechanism of a local or side gear. Liu Haifang put forward the parametric design method of involute gear by using Pro / E. Sun Qinghua gives the calculation method of axial cutting length when cutting cylindrical gear with hob. Tu Xiaobin and others applied computer technology to study the simulation technology of gear hobbing process. Xie Gang and others applied computer simulation technology to gear hobbing process and tooth profile error detection process.

Mou Yongyan, senior engineer of FAW Technology Research Institute, analyzed and studied the causes of gear hobbing error. Hu Jingshu and Wang Yu of Harbin University of technology also advocated and introduced dry and quasi dry cutting technology and tool materials. Zhang Yanying deeply analyzed the factors affecting the motion accuracy of gears. Liu Dawei deeply expounded the causes of wear and damage of gear hobs. Li Xiaolin analyzed the load of cutting edge in gear hobbing process in detail; Feng Weiwei puts forward a new calculation method for the radius of curvature in the calculation of gear tooth height contact stress, and puts forward the calculation method of gear contact line length and coincidence coefficient; Based on practical experience, Ju Huimin introduced the ways to improve the machining quality and efficiency of cylindrical gear hobbing and shaving.

Based on the research status at home and abroad, the research on gear hobbing abroad is more in-depth and detailed. There are still some problems in the mathematical model of gear hobbing cutting process, which is not very perfect. The mathematical model established by Japanese scholars has large error and low precision. It only simulates the gear hobbing cutting process from the quasi micro level. The mathematical model established by Russian scholars uses 383 groups of different formulas in calculating the cutting area, which is obviously too complex. When analyzing the working back angle of hob cutting edge, German scholars even came to the obvious wrong conclusion that there is negative back angle cutting. In addition, due to technical confidentiality and other reasons, the introduction of the model is very general, and the specific details have not been published, so it is still difficult to learn from it.
