The structural parameters of gear turning tool include modulus, number of teeth, helix angle and pressure angle. Modulus and pressure angle have little influence on the cutting angle of tool. Therefore, the influence law of tool number of teeth and helix angle 𝛽 1 and 𝛽 2 on the cutting angle is mainly analyzed.
When the number of workpiece teeth remains unchanged, changing the number of tool teeth mainly affects the transmission ratio, so as to change the cutting speed of workpiece relative to tool. Figure 1 shows the influence law of tool tooth number on cutting rake angle. It can be seen that the number of tool teeth has no obvious law on the influence of tool rake angle, and the change trend of rake angle with the tool rotation process is basically the same.
Figure 2 shows the influence law of tool 𝛽 value on cutting rake angle. It can be seen that the increase of 𝛽 1 will lead to the emergence of negative front angle, while the decrease of 𝛽 2 will lead to the emergence of negative front angle. Therefore, the size of 𝛽 1 and 𝛽 2 should be strictly controlled when designing face gear turning cutter.
