In the high-speed and heavy-duty gear transmission of automobile gears, the pressure in the meshing area of the tooth surface is high, and the sliding speed is high, which makes the working surface temperature very high, and the viscosity of the lubricating oil is reduced, resulting in lubrication failure, resulting in local direct contact between the tooth surfaces. The local metals of the meshing two tooth surfaces are softened and welded together. When the tooth surfaces continue to move, the fused metal will be torn off from the softer tooth surface along the sliding direction, forming stripes and scars of different sizes on the tooth surface, This phenomenon is called gluing.

In low-speed and heavy-duty gear transmission, the pressure between tooth surfaces is large and the speed is low, which makes it difficult to form lubricating oil film and may also produce gluing phenomenon, commonly known as cold welding.

The use of lubricating oil with strong anti scuffing ability can prevent or reduce the scuffing of gear teeth by increasing the viscosity of lubricating oil, reducing the modulus, reducing the sliding coefficient, improving the hardness of gear teeth and reducing the value of surface roughness.
