For the face gear with the parameters shown in example 2 in Table 1, the spherical hob is manufactured, and the corresponding face gear hobbing test is carried out on the face gear NC Hobbing special machine tool, as shown in Figure 1. The obtained face gear is tested on the Wenzel CMM, as shown in Fig. 2, and the three-dimensional coordinate value of its tooth surface point is obtained. After coordinate transformation and comparison with the theoretical coordinate value, the tooth surface deviation diagram is obtained, as shown in Fig. 3, and the maximum error is – 44.3 μ m。 The error is caused by the combination of tool manufacturing error, machine tool error and tool setting error.
1) This paper expounds the design idea of spherical hob, and deduces the profile equation and spiral rise angle of spherical hob with face gear by intuitive method; The process of machining face gear with spherical hob is deduced, and the profile equation of face gear is given.
2) The simulation results show that the maximum error of tooth surface is less than 0.01 compared with gear shaping μ m. The correctness of machining face gear with spherical hob is verified.
3) The gear hobbing test is carried out, and the gear accuracy is tested by CMM. The test results show that the maximum error of gear surface is – 44.3 μ m. The test results verify the feasibility of machining face gear with spherical hob.
