As we all know, China is an ancient country with a civilization history of thousands of years. Gear transmission technology is no exception. The invention of the compass is a powerful proof. However, in the past century, the development of gear transmission technology in China lags behind that in western developed countries. Since the birth of new China, China’s gear transmission technology has made great progress, and its development has become more obvious since the reform and opening up. Some distinctive technologies, such as hard tooth involute gear transmission technology, enveloping hourglass worm transmission technology, circular arc gear transmission technology, are close to or have reached the world advanced level. But generally speaking, there is still a considerable gap between China’s gear transmission technology and the developed countries in the world.
(1) The history of gear transmission in China can be traced back to 3000 years ago and has written a glorious chapter in the history of gear transmission in the world.
(2) Since the founding of new China, the development of gear technology in China has experienced four stages, has developed greatly and formed its own characteristics.
(3) China has become a major gear manufacturing country in the world. Looking forward to the future and implementing the informatization of gear manufacturing industry will make China a powerful gear manufacturing country.
This paper briefly reviews the long history of gear transmission in China, traces the rapid development of gear technology in China after the founding of new China, discusses the current situation of gear technology in China, and puts forward some suggestions for the development of gear transmission technology in China in the future.
