Influence of grinding speed on grinding force of spiral bevel gear

Fixed spiral bevel gear speed VW = 1200 mm / min, grinding depth AP = 50 μ m. The test is carried out at different grinding speeds vs. the influence of the grinding speed of spiral bevel gear on the grinding force is shown in the figure.

It can be seen from the figure that both normal grinding force and tangential grinding force decrease with the increase of grinding speed. This is because the increase of the grinding speed of the spiral bevel gear increases the number of effective abrasive particles involved in cutting per unit time, the maximum undeformed cutting thickness of a single abrasive particle becomes thinner, and the contact arc length between the grinding wheel and the spiral bevel gear decreases, so the grinding force decreases accordingly. At the same time, on the other hand, the increase of the grinding speed of the spiral bevel gear will lead to the increase of the number of sliding friction of the abrasive particles on the surface of the spiral bevel gear, which will increase the temperature of the surface of the spiral bevel gear. Due to the softening effect of the grinding heat, the plastic flow of the spiral bevel gear is enhanced and the grinding force required to remove the material is reduced. The grinding force decreases with the increase of grinding speed.
