Gleason of the United States has always been in a leading position in the world in the design and processing technology of spiral bevel gears. Hypoid gear was proposed by Gleason company in 1925, which is used for transmission between staggered shafts. Due to the offset of the pinion axis of hypoid gear, the design of its geometric parameters, the calculation of machining parameters and the theory of meshing rationality become more complex.
In 1972, China organized some domestic scientific research institutions, colleges and universities and important enterprises to study and tackle these technologies. After many years of theoretical research and production practice, China basically fully mastered the design and processing technology of spiral bevel gears, and improved and developed to a certain extent. China’s own spiral bevel gear design and processing system has been established.
After the point meshing technology of gear was put forward, this technology has been continuously improved and developed. The representative Professor Li Tewen of the United States has greatly expanded the point meshing spiral bevel gear theory. Professor Li Tewen made a comprehensive research on Gleason’s local conjugate principle technology, and then modified and improved this technology. In his book “gear meshing principle”, Professor Li Tewen proposed the “local synthesis” method of hypoid gear design.
